San Diego is a great tourist destination to say the least. Although there are more than a few restaurants, aimed at the tourists, the locals eat at the best places and so can you.
San Diego is, of course, near the border with Mexico. While illegal immigration is a hot political topic, there is no doubt that most San Diegans thoroughly enjoy the authentic Mexican cuisine to get in San Diego.
There are tons of drive and joints to walk along the road that the server fried foods. They usually end in "bertos". The first was a place called Roberto's. It was a legend and a favorite among many in the late hours of entertainment for the evening was dead.
Roberto's, but was quickly taken with the competition. If you can add "bertos" to a name, it exists as a Mexican restaurant in San Diego. To name but a few, there is Aldebertos, Alberto, and Mobertos ... well, you get the idea. While they are excellent for deep friend foods which your doctor weak, it really does not offer the quality, most are looking for.
Yes, where can you go for the best Mexican food in San Diego on your trip? While it is obviously a subjective matter, few would argue with La Especial Norte in Leucadia. Leucadia is located on the coast of what is known as the north of San Diego County. It is between Carlsbad and Encinitas, about five minutes north of Del Mar.
Regardless, La Especial is very authentic. The food is tremendous, but the house specialty is the soup. Many San Diegan has for 30 minutes or more to the Chicken Soup, if prior to the flu. It is a guaranteed cure. The Tortilla Soup with melted cheese is also a Swoon. Altogether there are 16 different soups on the menu at La Especial. You really can not go wrong with any of them.
A quick note for those who are in a hurry. La Especial is very authentic and the pace of things in the restaurant is slow. There may be a half hour before the waiter after ordering. If you are in a hurry, this is not the place for you. If you have time, it is!
