law school rankings 2006
Have you ever wondered what you did, you did not have the right school and legal practice route? There are many of us are asking, what could I do? Personally, if I could do it again I would perhaps in relation to French and France. Back in those days, however, despite the Ooh la la le francais taste the thrill of the Act replaced the guttural U's, the absentees, and of course the s slick compounds. Monday dieu! What attraction?
When I was pursing a degree in French as opposed to law, it seemed not only competition. What would I do with a French degree, a teacher, a translator / interpreter, a UN employee, an employee of hospitality? None of these professions seemed attractive at the time. The lure of the law was overpowering. It was rigorous investigation of the impressive books, dramatic exchange with our colleagues, flowery expressions in a language even older and more mysterious than French, arguments with real-life lawyers and judges at Moot Court, is the participation in real courts amidst clothes and wigs , pretext of lawyering legal aid clinic, dreams of success, money and status and, of course, witty repartee.
Convinced that we were to make the world a better place and get rich, we stuck with the program, the case may be toiling along in the development of the Common Law. The judges were our friends, Denning and Diplock to name a few. We have learned to examine our drink, in the light of negligence in Donoghue v Stevenson, to rejoice that support equity, the law to distinguish between domicile and residence, and of course the service contract and contract for the service. The Act brought some real writers who thrilled to use words such as save and except, among other things, and shown how they raise their awareness of the ejusdem generis rule. Oh, how excited and nervous, we were dressed in the Moot Court, as we in our sole dark suit with pumps. Friends become enemies to the point than has been lobbying for the stars, the process of lawyers to come. True bleak as we court we gesticulated and waxed lyrical quote dead judge who cited sections and paragraphs and sometimes even injecting a sardonic JAB or two.
French could not be compared regardless of their supposedly romantic charm. It is just another language I thought I could even fluent one day. But the law, not be moved to do to earn money and dark suits to be worn. That was then. Now, after pools of blood contradictoire, numerous agreements, disagreements, and settlements, sardonic wit, at cynical way of perception and a stroll along the Champs Elysees, the corridors of the United Nations, or even a high school classroom - gesticulating, as only the French - does not sound so bad. I am looking forward to the listing of other dead men, Jean Paul Sartre and Saint Exupery to name a few, sucking snails and frog legs with sauce and no hint of a negligence suit, interpretation with ease and flow, the application of the rules of Le Bon use, and sometimes gets boring dark suits with that insouciant French Chic Taste: colored scarves and boots high heels.
So, now at the Alliance Francaise evoke the same voltage as Law School. Zut alors! At least I know there are alternatives, so that one day maybe just maybe I will exercise the option and find a way to leave the bar. So those who are out there, the secret passion you wished you had not pursued deterrent. Follow your dream.
