In 2002, New York State to the sexual orientation Non-Discrimination Act (SONDA). This law prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation. Under the law, sexual orientation is defined as "bisexuality, asexuality, homosexuality and heterosexuality." Employees of all sexual orientations are to New York City human rights laws. Recognition, if you have been discriminated against or harassed on your sexual orientation is critical to protecting your rights at work.

Discrimination can take many forms. Perhaps the most obvious example of discrimination is when you refused the promotion of employment, or if you are terminated because of sexual orientation. Regardless of orientation, you earn the right to reside in your working environment. This is not only harmful to those disadvantaged practice, but it is illegal and violates the rights of those who suffer because of discrimination.

Harassment on a variety of ways, including cruel jokes, asks that you not speak about your orientation at work, name calling, and exclusion from work events or meetings on your sexual orientation. These, in turn, violated the right of a person in the workplace.

If the conditions at work too much to handle, you may be trying to work to escape further suffering. Please note that smoking in the first occurrence of discrimination or harassment is not much, most lawyers have a case if you sue your employer. While it may be horrible to endure the conditions at the workplace must prove strong enough to give you no other alternative than to quit.

The first step of any employee who is discriminated against or harassed based on sexual orientation should be to reduce the incidents by your employer, the grievance procedure. Take a look at your employer company handbook. Many have the fight against discrimination and harassment policies clearly listed in the manual. If you do not properly follow the instructions in the manual on the reporting of discrimination or harassment, you may lose your right to damages. Also, it is noted that there are often time constraints on filing a complaint. Always complaints immediately after the event occurs, so that you do not lose your rights to the passage of time.

Every employee, regardless of sexual orientation deserves a discrimination and harassment free workplace. Consult a lawyer if you think you are the victim of discrimination or harassment because of your sexual orientation.
